At a glance
Zimbabweans can visit South Africa without a visa for up to 90 days. South Africa's official visa-exemption list gives Zimbabwe 90 days for all passport types: diplomatic, official, service and ordinary. There's nothing to apply for in advance. You're admitted at the border post or airport.
What you need at the border
- Passport validity: at least 30 days after the date you plan to leave South Africa.
- Blank pages: at least 2 consecutive completely blank visa pages. Entry can be refused if you don't have them.
- Return or onward ticket and accommodation details: officers can ask for these.
- Proof of funds: bank statements or cards, if asked.
- Children: South Africa can ask for extra documents for minors, such as birth certificates and parental consent. Check Department of Home Affairs guidance before travelling with children.
Cash and customs
You can bring in up to ZAR 25,000 in rand notes. There's no limit on foreign currency, but declare it on arrival. Check SARS customs allowances before carrying goods for resale. Commercial quantities are dutiable.
Crossing by road (Beitbridge)
Beitbridge is one of Africa's busiest land borders, and queues peak around month-end, Easter and December.
- Travel early in the day.
- Keep your documents together.
- Use only official border officials and facilities. Never hand documents to "runners."
